Mentorship Services
Doyletech has been a leading provider of mentorship services to early-stage technology companies. While most CEOs and senior managers recognize the value of effective mentorship, many of them procrastinate on seeking it because they are concerned about entering into consulting arrangements that can consume a lot of time and money. Doyletech has tailored
its mentoring service so that it can be modularized and purchased on an hourly basis in the same way that other professional services are purchased. Included with each mentorship assignment is one copy of Making Technology Happen, a 191-page textbook developed by Doyletech.
Mentorship clients have included executives from firms such as VantagePoint International, Newbridge Networks, Regi-Net Inc., Infonium Inc., Larus Technologies, TalentMap, Tilcon Software, Trillium Photonics, 4Pi Photonics, Instantel Inc., IS Medical Systems, Dofasco Limited, Kaval Telecom, Guildline Instruments, MB Foster, Semiconductor Insights, TravelPod, Transformix Engineering, CML Technologies, The City of Cornwall, among other organizations.
Mentorship topics have been designed so they can be addressed in fixed minimum time slots or as components of larger modules that address broader topics such as people management and self-improvement. Other mentorship topics can include financial and operations management (e.g. how to organize your company properly) and technology / product / market strategies (see diagram to the left).
Our founder, Denzil Doyle, has also authored a book on mentorship in technology-based companies. It was published several years ago by the Science Council of British Columbia (see picture to the right).
- One for management and another for leadership, but each going in opposite directions. The reason for this is that many of the qualities required of a good manager are diametrically opposed to those required of a good leader.
- One for technology knowledge and another for market knowledge, again each going in opposite directions. The reason for this is that CEOs typically suffer from a tendency toward too much market pull or too much technology push (see diagram below).
